Blackberry Lily Belamcanda Chinensis is a herbaceous, rhizomatous perennial that is native to China and Japan. Also called Leopard Lily, the plant grows up to 2-3 feet tall and features iris-like medium-green foliage with tall upright lives. Blackberry Lily seeds can be started indoors or outdoors, and the established Belamcanda Chinensis blooms with very showy, six-petal, deep-orange flowers that are 2 inches in diameter and spotted profoundly with red dots. Blackberry Lily features distinctive seed pods that look like blackberry seed clusters.
Blackberry Lily is planted in cutting gardens and shrub borders. When mass planted, Blackberry Lilies make a remarkable display in any landscape. Belamcanda Chinensis seeds have to be planted not deeper than 1/4 of inch, because these flower seeds need light to germinate. Leopard Lily grows well in full sun or light shade preferring well-drained soil for the best performance. This variety of Blackberry Lily is called Freckle Face, and its strong floral stems along with showy seed clusters make this flower an exceptional fresh or dried cut flower.
