Amaranthus Love Lies Bleeding Green Amaranthus Caudatus is a herbaceous annual that is easy to grow from Amaranthus seeds. Also called Tassel Flower the plant is an unusual green-flowered variety of Love Lies Bleeding Red. This Amaranthus produces green, petalless flowers that bloom in narrow, drooping, tassel-like, terminal and auxiliary panicles throughout the growing season. The small green flowers are tightly packed on 18 Inches spikes with a pendant habit, and green leaves turn bronze as the season progresses. Amaranthus seeds germinate quickly, and it takes only 8-10 weeks from sowing the seeds to flowering.
Amaranthus Caudatus is used to give height to formal flower beds and can be grown in borders, flower beds, and hanging baskets. Amaranthus is an excellent cut flower, and it is best cut for fresh bouquets when 3/4 of the flowers on the stem are open. The flowers will stay fresh in water for 7-10 days. As a dried flower, Amaranthus is everlasting (Amaranthus comes from the Greek word for unfading,) and its flowers retain their color when dried for arrangements. Pick Amaranthus for drying when the seed begins to set and the flowers are firm to the touch.
