Mountain Garland Clarkia Unguiculata is a delightful annual wildflower native to California. Mountain Garland seeds can be started directly outdoors in spring or fall, and also known as Elegant Clarkia and Garland Flower, Clarkia Unguiculata starts to bloom in 8-10 weeks after sowing, and its compact blossoms are arranged on tall, erect, deep purple flowering stems in spikes of showy flowers that appear in soft pastel shades of pink to salmon or purplish hues. The blooming Clarkia Elegans attracts bees and butterflies.
Mountain Garland is a popular cottage and cutting garden flower, and Clarkia makes a good addition to rock gardens, borders, flower beds, wildlife plantings and containers. Clarkia Unguiculata seeds have to be just scattered on loosened soil and then compress into the dirt, and the established Mountain Garland can tolerate some drought and a wide range of soil conditions except heavy clay soils. Mountain Garland is an excellent cut flower that can last as long as 3 weeks. Clarkia re-seeds itself and can re-grow following spring if seed falls on bare ground.
