Browallia Browallia Americana is a true annual plant native to South America. This striking flower is also called Jamaican Forget-Me-Not, Bush Violet or Amethyst Flower and has shrubby appearance. Browallia seeds can be started indoors before last frost or directly outdoors in spring. Browallia Americana features dark-green foliage with small oval leaves and produces masses of star-shaped, sky-blue flowers with a cream center blooming heavily until first frost. The butterflies and bees like to visit the blooming Browallia.
Browallia is grown in cottage gardens, cutting gardens, flower beds and borders. Jamaican Forget-Me-Not is also widely planted in containers, pots and hanging baskets. Browallia Americana seeds have to be just slightly pressed into the soil surface for the best germination, and the established Browallia likes to grow in rich, well-drained soil preferring light shade, but the full sun can be tolerated. The filtered sunlight or partial shade is especially advisable in the hot climates. Bush Violet is a very low maintenance plant that blooms profusely all season long even without deadheading. Browallia can also be grown indoors and makes a fabulous winter-flowering houseplant.
