Lemon Grass East Indian Cymbopogon Flexuosus is a tropical perennial herb that can be grown as an annual plant below USDA zone 8. Easily grown from Lemon Grass East Indian seeds, this clump-forming perennial resembles an ornamental grass featuring aromatic cane-like stems that densely grow from a central base. The fibrous, lemon-scented, linear, strap leaves grow up to 5 feet folding over at the tip, and their very strong lemon aroma keeps the mosquitoes away.

Lemon Grass East Indian can be grown just as any ornamental grass in containers, along pathways and edges, general garden planting, and of course this tropical herb is one of the favorites in herb gardens. Starting Cymbopogon Flexuosus seeds indoors is a recommended method for optimum germination rates, but the seeds can be sown directly outdoors after last frost. If started indoors, the seedling can be transplanted outdoors after it reaches a height of 6 inches. Lemon Grass ornamental herb thrives in moist soil and full sun, and if it is planted in containers or pots, the plant can be moved indoors during winter. The leaves and stems of Lemon Grass can be used fresh or dried to impart a distinct lemon flavor that adds a lot of zest to hot teas. As a culinary herb Lemon Grass adds delicate flavor to soups, curries, and sauces, as well as fish and chicken dishes.
