Flax Scarlet Linum Grandiflorum Rubrum is a hardy, flowering annual herb that is native to northern Africa and southern Europe. Scarlet Flax seeds are very easy to grow, and also commonly called Red Flax and Crimson Flax this cultivated flax variety is a close relative of the flax that is used to produce linen. Scarlet Flax features erect, branching flower stems with narrow lanceolate leaves and produces a profusion of glossy, deep-scarlet flowers with brilliant red petals that are often edged in black.
Flax Scarlet is best admired if planted in density, and this highly ornamental flax flower provides quick easy color in borders or over spring bulbs looking outstanding when planted with white-flowered or gray foliage plants. Linum Grandiflorum Rubrum seeds can be sown in fall in mild winter areas and early spring everywhere else. Once established Red Flax can tolerate immense heat and extremely dry conditions, and the plant re-seeds itself without being invasive.
