Columbine Crystal Star Aquilegia Caerulea is also called Rocky Mountain Columbine and this flowering plant is a hardy perennial native to North America. For early bloom Columbine Crystal Star seeds can be started outdoors in fall, and this perennial with ferny, green foliage produces very attractive, large, pure white flowers with white-cream corollas. Columbine starts to bloom in mid spring, and the showy, lightly scented flowers attract bees, hummingbirds and butterflies.
Columbine Crystal Star is one of the most popular flowers for hummingbird and cutting gardens. Aquilegia Caerulea seeds cannot be covered with soil, because the seeds need light to germinate. Columbine grows best in full or partial sun tolerating partial shade and adapting to various soil conditions. Columbine makes a superb cut flower.
