Crimson Clover Trifolium Incarnatum is a popular annual plant native to Europe. Crimson Clover seeds can be planted outdoors throughout a season, but as a winter annual, this clover is usually planted in the late summer to early fall. If Crimson Clover is planted in the early fall, it will provide a dense carpet of vegetation that provides excellent ground protection. During May and June the blooming Trifolium Incarnatum will draw a great appeal for the blanket of crimson flowers.
Crimson Clover is also a nutritious grazing plant for livestock, and it is commonly planted as a cover crop on farms, because clover fixes nitrogen in the soil, suppresses weeds and reduces erosion. Trifolium Incarnatum seeds germinate fast, and the moist soil is essential for germination and establishment. Crimson Clover adapts itself to many different soil types and grows best in cool, humid weather, but this annual flower does not survive extreme heat or cold.
